The past two years have been a whirlwind for the biggest little gaming company you never heard of, Wargaming.net. In the time since the launch of World of Tanks (the player vs. player title that pits various armored vehicles against one another in battle), they've doubled their staff to over 1500 employees, opened three new offices across Europe and, most notably, acquired studios BigWorld and Gas Powered Games. To that effect their network of games has broadened into new areas and platforms, offering fresh gameplay experiences set within the vast World of Tanks universe while remaining firmly esconced in the free to play MMO genre that secured their success.

This year Santa brought my kids the Xbox One version of Star Wars Battlefront and all it took was about 45 seconds of playing with them to realize that I'm an incredibly old man. Within that fraction of a minute I was killed 11 times without even remotely endangering any of the rebel scum we were going up against. This pretty much sums up why I'm not a huge fan of World of Tanks Blitz. I can tell it's a well-crafted and exciting game to play, but serving as nothing but cannon fodder for the duration of each match due to my antiquated and sausage-like fingers, as well as my more turn-based brain, just doesn't do it for me. For those of you who love the game, and there are plenty of you, WoT Blitz received a huge update yesterday that adds, among other things, camouflage.

That's unfortunate, as these experience points are the most valuable of Blitz's currencies. New players start with just one tank in their garage: an old, slow creature that's assigned to tier one of Blitz's 10-tier system. Playing through the tutorial ensures you'll get to play with a tier two tank from one of the five countries represented the USSR, Germany, Britain, the US, and Japan but from there you're on your own.

I'm having a hard time putting down World of Tanks Blitz. The other part is that despite making some concessions to ensure the multiplayer experience works on mobile devices, it's similar enough to its excellent PC sibling in all the ways that count, and even some of the changes end up adding to its addictive qualities. In spite of all of this, I find myself totally engaged with World of Tanks Blitz and find it competing for time with the likes of Hearthstone and Magic 2015. This is a bizarre occurrence, even for me, and so I have begun to analyze about why I am so enamored with this game and why I think you should try it.

World of Tanks Blitz is a free-to-play 3D action MMO that shares a variety of gameplay elements in common with the highly popular PC game World of Tanks, such as a variety of mid-20th century tanks to unlock and learn, realistic tank physics, and strategic combat.
